Escape to Paradise: Marriott's Aruba Ocean Club - Your Dream Vacation Awaits!
Aruba, Oh Aruba! My Whirlwind Romance with Marriott's Ocean Club (and the Sunscreen I Left Behind) - SEO-Packed Review
Alright, buckle up buttercups, because I'm about to spill the beans on my recent escape to paradise – Marriott's Aruba Ocean Club! And let me tell you, escape is the operative word. I needed it. Like, salt-water-in-my-hair, fruity-cocktail-in-my-hand, needed it. And this place? Well, it mostly delivered. Let's dive in, shall we?
Accessibility: A Mixed Bag (But Mostly Good!)
Okay, so accessibility. This is HUGE for me, especially since my Uncle Jerry uses a wheelchair. The website boasted about facilities for disabled guests, and thankfully, it wasn't all just talk. Wheelchair accessible areas were definitely present, from the lobby to the swimming pool [outdoor], which was a major win. We saw some elevators, which helped make sure Jerry could stay in the loop. However, getting around the property required a bit of planning. Some walkways were a little tight, and while the staff was INCREDIBLY helpful, navigating the beach access could be challenging. This could be better and more well-thought-out, especially the sand-filled paths. Also, I would like to see more clear signage around where all of the accessibility features are.
Rooms: My Personal Oasis (Except for the Missing Sunscreen!)
The air conditioning was a godsend. Aruban sun is fierce, and trust me, you'll need some serious AC. Now, the rooms themselves were spacious and clean. A big shout out to the daily housekeeping crew – they were absolute lifesavers. Having free Wi-Fi [free] was AMAZING. A super bonus! And the fact that you could leave your laptop on the laptop workspace was a dream. I loved that they had a mini bar to stock up on drinks, and also a refrigerator to stay cool. There was also a separate shower/bathtub. I felt pretty spoiled. The bathroom had good toiletries and robes. I did love the balconies. I missed a lot of things at home, but the sunsets were worth it.
Crucially, I left a full tube of high-SPF sunscreen in my bathroom. I wanted to cry. Next time, I'm bringing two tubes.
Dining, Drinking, and Snacking: A Culinary Adventure (with a Few Hiccups)
Let's talk food, because let's be honest, that's what I'm usually thinking about. The restaurants at Aruba Ocean Club offered a fairly diverse selection. I, personally, loved the poolside bar. The Happy hour was absolutely essential. The buffet in restaurant was great too, always a classic. I loved the variety of international cuisine in restaurant, and they had a nice Asian cuisine in restaurant that was delicious.
Here's the thing, service at the restaurants was a little slow at times. I did love the coffee shop and the breakfast [buffet] was pretty stellar. They did a good job of offering a good selection of vegetarian restaurant options. They even have room service [24-hour]. I actually took that during a late night - it was very awesome.
Things to Do, Ways to Relax: So Many Choices, So Little Time!
This is where the Ocean Club really shines. If you're like me and ways to relax is at the top of your list, you're in luck.
- The Spa is Divine: A spa visit is pretty much mandatory on an island like Aruba. The massage was heavenly, and I spent an ungodly amount of time in the steamroom. Body scrub was amazing, too! Their foot bath was seriously the best. I felt like jello. I would get another body wrap. I did not check out the sauna, but I think I should have.
- Poolside Bliss: The swimming pool was gorgeous, and they had a fantastic pool with view. The poolside bar was calling my name all day, every day.
- For the Fitness Freaks: They have a fitness center too. I saw people in it. I, personally, preferred the cocktails.
- The Beach: This is Aruba, people! The beach is the star of the show. Hours were lost just staring at the turquoise water.
Cleanliness and Safety: Feeling Safe and Sound (Mostly)
In these times, we all want to feel safe, right? The Ocean Club seemed to take this seriously. They had daily disinfection in common areas and put out signs about good hygiene. I saw evidence of professional-grade sanitizing services. All the staff wore masks, and the whole place felt pretty clean and safe. They had hand sanitizer everywhere you looked. They had stuff about safe dining setup too. Also, there was a doctor/nurse on call if you needed it, and a first aid kit available. They did have some anti-viral cleaning products, and I found the hygiene certification to be reassuring. They even have smoke alarms!
The Biggest Surprise?
Honestly, it was the complete and utter lack of stress. The world outside the hotel was in chaos, but within those blue walls, I felt… calm. And that, my friends, is worth its weight in gold. Even if I did forget my sunscreen.

Santorini Mesotopos: Greece's Hidden Gem You NEED to See!
Okay, buckle up, buttercups. This isn't your pristine, sanitized itinerary. This is the raw, unfiltered, sunburnt truth of a week spent at the Marriott's Aruba Ocean Club. Prepare for the emotional rollercoaster, the sand in uncomfortable places, and the existential dread of realizing you packed way too many shoes.
Itinerary: Aruba or Bust (And Probably Back Again… Eventually)
Day 1: Arrival – The Great Unpacking Disaster & The First Margarita Debacle
- Morning: ARRIVAL! Hooray! (Cue cheesy music.) Landed, cleared customs (thank you, sweet baby Jesus, for Global Entry), and grabbed the rental car. Driving on the "wrong" side of the road is way more stressful than anticipated. Almost sideswiped a donkey. My therapist will love this.
- Afternoon: Checked into the Ocean Club. Okay, the lobby is gorgeous. Marble. Gleaming. I'm already judging everyone's packing cubes (mine are the questionable floral kind). The room? Stunning ocean view. Breathe. Unpack. Unpack. Unpack. (Why. Do. I. Bring. So. Much. Crap?) Find out the balcony door WON'T open the first day.
- Evening: The Margarita Experiment: Phase One. Hit the bar… only to find out the blender's broken. Devasted. Settled for a…okay but not amazing rum punch. Dinner at Simply Fish (yes, the one on the beach!). Romantic ambiance, yes. Delicious food? Also yes. Did I accidentally drop a shrimp? Yes. Did the waiter see? Probably. But hey, the sunset was amazing, AND I'm on vacation.
Day 2: Beach Day Bliss (Mostly) & the Sunburn of Doom
- Morning: Beach time. The water is that perfect turquoise you see in Instagram photos, but the wind…the wind is a beast. Spent forever trying to secure the umbrella (which, naturally, kept trying to escape). Read a book. Napped. Got a slightly aggressive tan.
- Afternoon: Attempted to snorkel. Saw…a few fish. Mostly just salt water in my mask and a growing sense of panic. Gave up, retreated to the palapa (the shade-giving structures). Realized I missed a spot with the sunscreen. The back of my neck is already screaming.
- Evening: Dinner at Moomba Beach. Fun! Vibes! Dancing on the sand until my sandaled feet hurt! Saw someone wearing a thong. (Okay, maybe I didn’t see that.) Ordered a massive plate of nachos for the table. (They were good. REALLY good.)
Day 3: Jeep Adventure & the Cave of Contemplation (and Bats?)
- Morning: Jeep tour! Let's go! (After a pre-tour crisis involving a rogue hair tie and a near-meltdown.) Driving through the rugged terrain was awesome. Saw some actual terrain. The Natural Bridge was… well, a bridge. The rock formations are impressive.
- Afternoon: The Arikok National Park was something else, wow. The Natural Pool was freezing. Worth it. I swam, got salt water in my ears, and felt like an adventurer, until…
- Evening: Visited the Fontein Cave: Spelunking! The caves were cool. But the bats. OMG, the bats. They were swooping! And squeaking! And I may or may not have screamed. (I definitely did. Loudly.) Dinner at a random roadside shack. Amazing local food. Cheap. So worth getting over the fear of food poisoning.
Day 4: Poolside Snoozing & the Great Towel Hunt
- Morning: Officially declared a "pool day." Found a coveted lounge chair (victory!) and spent the morning alternating between swimming, reading, and applying sunscreen. (Learned my lesson about the sunburn.)
- Afternoon: The towel situation: a freaking NIGHTMARE. Apparently, everyone knows the secret of hoarding precious towels. Spent a frustrating hour searching for a clean towel. (This is the kind of thing that annoys me. WHY. ARE. THERE. NOT. ENOUGH. TOWELS.?)
- Evening: "Adults only" happy hour. Maybe a little too much happiness… Dinner at Atardi (again, on the beach, but this time during sunset!). Still romantic. More delicious food. More rum punch (this time the blender actually worked). Proceeded to tell the waiter my life story.
Day 5: Deep Sea Fishing (and the Vomit Comet)
- Morning: Set out on a deep-sea fishing charter. I thought I'd be fine. I'm not normally sea-sick. I was wrong. SO. WRONG. The waves were HUGE. The boat was rocking. Spent most of the time hugging the railing and contemplating the meaning of life (and the contents of my stomach). Did not catch a fish. (Thank you, sea gods).
- Afternoon: Recovered from the watery experience, spent the afternoon sitting in my room, ordering room service, and watching some bad "reality" tv.
- Evening: Made up with a fantastic sunset dinner again at the Ocean Club.
Day 6: Shopping & the Search for the Perfect Souvenir
- Morning: Downtown Oranjestad: shops! Souvenirs! Overpriced trinkets! Bought a ridiculous flamingo-shaped pool float. Realized I have absolutely no place to put a flamingo-shaped pool float. (Regret. Sets. In.)
- Afternoon: More shopping. Ate way too much ice cream. Started to feel the impending doom of going home.
- Evening: Packed the suitcase (the dreaded task). Had a farewell dinner at a restaurant I can't even remember. Too much food, too many cocktails, too much reminiscing.
Day 7: Departure – The End (or is it?)
- Morning: Last breakfast. Said goodbye to the ocean views. Airport. Security. The usual tortures of travel.
- Afternoon: HOME! Tired. Sunburned. Slightly broke. But also… happy. Already plotting my return. Aruba, you beautiful, chaotic, windy, bat-filled island, I'll be back.
Final Thoughts: This trip wasn't perfect. It was messy, frustrating, and at times, downright embarrassing. There were sunburns, near-death experiences on the dance floor, and a healthy dose of self-doubt. But there was also laughter, connection, and the undeniable magic of the Caribbean. 10/10, would recommend. Now, where's that flamingo?
Unbelievable Bandung Luxury: Hotel Cemerlang Awaits!
So, uh, what *is* this thing we're talking about, anyway? I'm already confused.
Why are you doing this? Is this some kind of… therapy?
What's the deal with these "rollercoaster" experiences you mentioned? Give me an example!
Okay, okay, I get the cake disaster. But what about... relationships? Those are complicated too, right?
What's the most embarrassing thing that's ever happened to you?
So, what's the *point* of all this? Is there supposed to be some grand takeaway?
